2009 WNY Winter Field Crops Update

Join the Cornell University Cooperative Extension Associations of, Allegany/Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Wyoming Counties for a 2009 winter update on Field Crops. The course will be offered at two locations on consecutive days: February 26th at the Randolph Fire Hall; Main Street; Randolph, NY and February 27th at Cornell Cooperative Extension Center of Erie County; 21 South Grove Street; East Aurora, NY. Each day will open with registration at 9:30 AM.

Presentations begin at 10:15 AM Sessions will adjourn at 3:15 PM. Topics to be covered: Crop Insurance for Risk Management; Herbicide Update – Changes in Recommendations & What’s New; Biofuels Policies: Economic Costs, Land Use Effects and GHG Emissions; and Field Crop Diseases Affecting Corn, Soybeans, Small Grains & Bio-Grasses.

Charlie Koines with the NYS Department of Agriculture & Markets’ NY Crop Insurance Education Program will review what you need to know to be ready for the March 15th sales closing deadlines for crop insurance policies as well as the provisions of the SURE disaster program included in the 2008 Farm Bill.

Russ Hahn, Cornell University, Department of Crops & Soil Science will discuss what new herbicides will be available in New York in 2009 and updates to the herbicide tables in the 2009 Cornell Guide for Field Crops. Tables have been organized according to type of genetics of the hybrid or variety selected to assist producers in their decision making process.

Learn what is new in the private sector by visiting our tradeshow exhibitors during registration and the extended lunch. Meeting planners have applied for 2.0 DEC pesticide recertification points and also CCA credits.
